Dr. Krishna Bhanudasrao Patil
DOI : N/A
Abstract
Certificate
Distance and online education have changed the way people learn. In India, this shift is important because of its diverse culture and ancient knowledge systems. Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) include subjects like Ayurveda, Yoga, Vedic Mathematics, Astronomy, and Philosophy. These systems have been passed down through generations and hold deep wisdom. The integration of IKS into online education can make learning more meaningful and holistic. However, challenges such as lack of structured courses, translation difficulties, and low acceptance in mainstream education slow down this process.
Technology can help overcome these challenges. Digital platforms can offer IKS courses in an interactive and engaging way. AI tools can help translate ancient texts, making them accessible to more people. Universities and policymakers need to work together to create courses that combine IKS with modern subjects. This will help students gain knowledge that is both traditional and futuristic.
Blended learning, which includes both online study and practical experiences, can improve learning outcomes. For example, an online Yoga course can include live demonstrations and personalized guidance. Online platforms can also connect experts with students worldwide, increasing the reach of Indian wisdom. By making these efforts, we can preserve our cultural heritage while ensuring that education remains relevant in today’s digital world. If implemented well, IKS in distance education can help students develop a deep understanding of their roots while preparing them for the future.

Mrs. Mukta Prashant Kashikar
DOI : N/A
Abstract
Certificate
The Indian Knowledge System (IKS) is an extensive and robust teacher education framework, drawing in part from traditional philosophies. The paper describes how the integration of the IKS and reflective practices in Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) courses can facilitate self-realization, professional development, and a culturally responsive pedagogy. Through IKS concepts, such as those found in Vedanta, Yoga Sutras, Nyaya and Samkhya philosophies, B.Ed. candidates may be invited to explore different self-reflection processes, build mindfulness, and participate in experiential learning. By practical experiences such as meditation, journaling, group discussion, and service learning, educator candidates will deepen their self-inquiry and develop emotional and intellectual resilience. Student-teachers increasingly recognize the interconnectedness between their values, beliefs, and practices; therefore, self-realization will support them in their journey of an ethical, reflective, and compassionate educator. The paper considers how the above principles can be embedded in curriculum design, teaching pedagogies, and classroom activities, producing well-rounded, holistic teachers. The authors conclude the paper by affirming that teacher education, rooted in reflective practices and an IKS, can lead to teachers' individual growth and a transformed education system that acknowledges teacher identity and is inclusive, connected to cultural heritage, and compassionate by design.

The integration of Indian Knowledge Systems into the present-day curriculum as emphasized by the NEP 2020 envisages an overhauling of the existing educational landscape. It presents a pivotal opportunity to re-define education in India by re-instilling pride in India's legacy in the heart of every learner, nurturing critical thinking and a spirit of inquiry and innovation. It is time Gen Z transcended the boundaries of the classroom by beginning to explore not just text books but the book of life itself. In keeping with this thinking the present research endeavors to evaluate one such co-curricular activity in terms of its potential benefits in imbuing student-teachers with traditional wisdom and skills in a bid to make education a comprehensive and culturally relevant learning experience. The sample comprised of 98 B.Ed. students of a private-aided Teacher Education college partaking in the capacity of hosts, participants or observers. On completion of the initiative an IKS test was administered and any differences In Skill-Driven Learning identified. Partial correlation analysis was conducted to assess which of the 3 domains of learning exhibited the strongest interrelationship in student teachers’ skill-driven learning achieved through the IKS related activity. Findings revealed that the interrelationship of Affective and Psychomotor development exhibited the highest association with students’ Skill-Driven Learning, followed closely by that between Cognitive and Psychomotor Development. This implies that when learning is reinvigorated with 21st century skills it would meet its intended objective of holistic student development charting out a promising avenue for IKS on the educational horizon.

THE SYNERGY OF INDIAN KNOWLEDGE SYSTEMS AND SPIRITUALITY: A PATH TO HOLISTIC WISDOM
Sr. Gladis P. Francis
DOI : N/A
Abstract
Certificate
Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) represent a rich tapestry of intellectual and spiritual traditions that have evolved over millennia, deeply influencing not only the philosophical discourse but also the very way humans understand themselves, the universe, and their place in it. Central to IKS is the insightful integration of spirituality with knowledge, where wisdom is seen not merely as intellectual pursuit but as a transformative force that leads to self-realization and liberation (moksha). Indian spiritual traditions such as Vedanta, Yoga, Buddhism, and Jainism have historically offered comprehensive frameworks that merge the material with the metaphysical, suggesting that true knowledge transcends the physical realm and fosters a deeper understanding of consciousness and existence.
This paper explores how Indian spirituality has shaped various aspects of IKS, particularly in philosophy, medicine, and the sciences. By examining key spiritual texts like the Vedas, Bhagavad Gita, and the Yoga Sutras, this paper reveals the intertwined nature of spiritual and intellectual inquiry. It highlights how concepts such as dharma (righteous duty) and karma (action and its consequences) provide a blueprint for ethical living and personal growth. Furthermore, the interdisciplinary approach of IKS, which views all forms of knowledge as interconnected, offers valuable insights for contemporary global challenges, including mental health and environmental sustainability. The synergy of IKS and spirituality encourages a holistic approach to both individual and collective well-being, fostering a harmonious relationship with oneself and the cosmos.

INTEGRATING TRADITIONAL INDIGENOUS KNOWLEDGE SYSTEMS FOR ACHIEVING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
Upasna Roy
DOI : N/A
Abstract
Certificate
The integration of Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) into sustainable development frameworks is essential for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 and realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat. IKS, comprising traditional wisdom, beliefs, and practices passed down through generations, offer sustainable solutions in agriculture, healthcare, environmental conservation, and social harmony. Recognizing and leveraging these knowledge systems can enhance sustainable resource management, food security, cultural preservation, and climate resilience.
India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 emphasizes the need for an inclusive and holistic education system that acknowledges the role of IKS in fostering environmental consciousness, sustainable livelihoods, and social well-being. Integrating IKS into modern development strategies aligns with the principles of SDH, ensuring equity, resilience, and empowerment for indigenous and rural communities. Traditional agricultural techniques, water harvesting methods, and medicinal practices contribute significantly to sustainability, biodiversity conservation, and climate adaptation. Moreover, IKS fosters a sense of harmony and brotherhood, reinforcing social cohesion and intergenerational knowledge transfer.
However, challenges such as the marginalization of indigenous communities, erosion of traditional knowledge due to modernization, and lack of formal recognition hinder the effective utilization of IKS. Addressing these challenges requires collaborative efforts among policymakers, researchers, and indigenous communities to document, protect, and integrate IKS into national and global sustainability agendas. Establishing supportive policies, legal frameworks, and educational initiatives will be crucial in preserving and promoting IKS, thereby advancing sustainable development and fostering a more resilient and inclusive future for all.

ACHIEVING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS THROUGH INDIAN KNOWLEDGE SYSTEMS: A REVIEW-BASED PERSPECTIVE
Vaishali Bhushan Kamble
DOI : N/A
Abstract
Certificate
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations aim to address critical global challenges such as poverty, inadequate healthcare, poor education, and environmental degradation. Achieving these goals requires sustainable and practical solutions, and Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) offer well-established methods that align with SDG objectives. IKS includes traditional farming techniques, Ayurveda-based healthcare, water conservation strategies, and holistic education, all of which have supported sustainable living for generations.
Despite ongoing efforts, several SDGs remain unachieved as of 2024. SDG 1 (No Poverty) continues to be a challenge due to income inequality and unemployment. SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) faces setbacks due to unsustainable agricultural practices and food insecurity. SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) struggles with rising lifestyle diseases and unequal healthcare access. SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) remains a concern, especially in water-scarce regions. SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 14 (Life Below Water) require urgent attention due to pollution and overconsumption of resources. SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land) demand immediate intervention to tackle deforestation and environmental damage.
This research paper explores how IKS can contribute to achieving these SDGs by examining various studies and scholarly research conducted in this field. The findings highlight that traditional organic farming methods enhance food security and soil fertility, Ayurveda and indigenous medicine offer cost-effective healthcare solutions, ancient water conservation techniques ensure sustainable water management, and indigenous environmental conservation practices help mitigate climate change. The Gurukula system and value-based education enhance learning quality.
India’s NEP 2020 promotes IKS by integrating traditional knowledge into education through multidisciplinary and experiential learning. It encourages research and innovation in IKS, helping students connect with India’s scientific and cultural heritage. This approach equips future generations with sustainable practices, supporting SDG achievement.
By integrating these time-tested practices into modern policies and development frameworks, India can accelerate progress toward SDG achievement while preserving its rich cultural heritage.
